Continuum: Vietnam traces Andy Soloman’s photographic journey spanning over thirty years. Between 1992 and 1993, as Vietnam emerged from isolation, Soloman wandered from Hanoi’s ancient streets to remote highlands and coastal villages, drawn to lives shaped by resilience and hope. His camera became a passport into private worlds, revealing ways of life preserved through generations and encounters filled with warmth, curiosity, and grace.
Since 2022, Soloman has returned to find those he first photographed, inviting them to hold their portraits from decades ago. In this exhibition, black-and-white archival images are juxtaposed with recent portraits, weaving a dialogue between past and present. Visitors glimpse not only the passage of time etched on familiar faces but also the profound transformation of a nation where tradition and modernity remain inseparably intertwined.
Soloman (b.1962), a former foreign correspondent, lived in Hanoi from 1992 to 1999. During those years, he formed a deep connection to Vietnam, began a family, and built lasting friendships. These bonds lend his work a rare tenderness and insight.Continuum: Vietnam is an invitation to reflect on memory, resilience, and the enduring spirit of a land and its people—always evolving, yet remaining unmistakably their own.
